10. 970 B.C. The biography of King Solomon, son of David & Bathsheba.

There were many other kings during this period. We also enter the period of the prophets, who

prophesied against Israel's disobedience, the coming destruction of Jerusalem, and the coming of the Messiah. The following dates are when the prophets began to prophesy: Amos & Hosea (755 B.C.) Isaiah (740 B.C.) Micah (725 B.C.)  (Joel & Jonah dates are uncertain).

11. 865 B.C. Elijah the prophet, King Ahab, Elisha the prophet, Naaman, & King Josiah.

Josiah was king between 640 - 609 B.C. During his reign these prophets began prophesying: Zephaniah (630 B.C.) Jeremiah (628 B.C.) Nahum (612 B.C.) Two years after Josiah, Habakkuk started prophesying in (607 B.C.) Ezekiel began to prophecy in (593 B.C.)

12. 586 B.C. Daniel in Babylon. The book of Daniel was Daniel's personal journal.

In 586 B.C. Jerusalem was destroyed as the prophets prophesied. The people were either killed or taken to Babylon as slaves. Jeremiah, Ezekiel, & Daniel were taken into the 70 year captivity, where Ezekiel wrote Ezekiel, & Jeremiah wrote Lamentations, which are 5 poems about the destruction of Jerusalem.

*All dates are approximate and are taken from Strong's concordance.

After the 70 year captivity, Esther became Queen; it was about here that Obadiah prophesied. It was at this time that the following Bible books were written: Nehemiah, Haggai, Zechariah Ezra, and Malachi.

Nehemiah left Babylon and started to rebuild the walls in Jerusalem. In 520 B.C. at the urging of Haggai and Zechariah, Zerubbabel started to rebuild the temple, it was completed five years later on March 12th 515 B.C. and Ezra became the priest. During this time Malachi the last book of the Old Testament was written. The four hundred year period from Malachi to John the Baptist, is known as the silent years.

However, during the silent years, Daniel's prophecy of the four empires was being fulfilled. The Babylonians were ruling when Daniel interpreted the dream of the image of gold, silver, brass, iron and clay. But Daniel tells us that the Babylonians were conquered by the Persians. Then in 334 B.C. the Persians were conquered by the Greeks, led by Alexander the Great. Eventually the Romans conquered the Greeks, and Sixty-three years before the Messiah, the Roman general Pompey the Great, took control of Jerusalem. And so it was that the whole land of Israel became part of the Roman Empire. Under Herod 19 years B.C. the rebuilding of the third temple began. The last Old Testament prophet was John the Baptist ......
